Collectakit was opened for business in 1984 by me, Patrick Lewarne, but I have been a keen member of the modelling community since my youth. My first model was a Kleeware Comet P47 in 1/48th scale, back in 1955. I had received it as a very kind present from an Uncle. This was swiftly followed by an Airfix, Ferguson Tractor, which was a present from another Uncle (a pattern starts to emerge…).
Both of those kits stayed pride of place in my room for many years, but unfortunately met a ghastly end during “mothers dusting”.
These sparked a lifelong passion for collecting a broad range of models, with a special passion for North American Freight Trains. As I continued to build and collect, it became apparent that the older, obsolete models that I enjoyed building were becoming lost. Which inevitably lead to the creation of Collectakit, to specialise in connecting customers with models that are no longer in production.
For many years now, Collectakit has been a firm and proud supporter of the International Plastic Modellers Society (UK) in their endeavours to promote and enhance the hobby for all who partake.
